Pinnacle’s Tempe West location is situated on Southern Avenue, in between Priest and 48th Street, in Tempe, Arizona. This site has been a constant success with enrollment, diverse populations, graduation rates, and achieving adequate yearly progress; regarding state assessment testing requirements. Nearly all students who enroll into this charter school, either finish and graduate with Pinnacle, or have gained the necessary credits, through credit recovery, to re-enroll into their original public school; which may be the desired goal. Either way, the goal of this organization is and will always be, to promote high school graduation, teach and model appropriate social skills, as well as prepare and guide individual plans for successful future endeavors; as students venture into the community as adults. This site is designed to reach those, who may or may not have been successful in the traditional public setting. For whatever reason: small student:teacher ratios, pregnancy, credit recovery, or self-paced accelerated curricula; this online instruction proves to be the ideal learning environment for its students. Our instructors, whether it is online or face to face, have chosen to work with this unique student body and educational format; as their experiences and determination to make a difference within each child is evident. Locating back to back with the district office, the Tempe location has an added benefit of having all curriculum developers and online instructors within minutes of face to face contact with any student who is in need. The majority of the classroom teachers, also, are part-time proctors and curriculum writers; which definitely enhance the personal ‘touch’ of distance learning. The live, online instructors are also just a few doors down to assist with supplemental interventions. The site staff is knowledgeable and attentive with special education, inclusion needs; once again, attending to each student, specifically. Trainings and professional development opportunities are regularly implemented for staff members to continue their growth; resulting in the performance of their students. As 2006 arrived, the state requirement for successfully passing the AIMS assessment for graduation undoubtedly has raised the need for additional tutoring. Tempe West offers AIMS tutoring three times a week, to assist with individual struggles or overall reviewing of materials. Besides the mandatory core curricula, Pinnacle Tempe offers various electives, as well as the World of Work program. This allows students the opportunity to complete the last few credits of electives through successful part time employment. Case managers are assigned to have contact with the student’s work-supervisor. Positive working habits are significant for the future of its students; and Tempe West advocates for early interventions and mentors as they prepare for their futures. And, speaking of futures, Pinnacle has begun the implementation of the partnership with AXIA College. By enrolling into classes, through Pinnacle, students can begin their post-secondary education with this online community college opportunity. This is a new and exciting avenue for its students, who may not have always felt comfortable in ‘taking that next step’ alone. The same academic support will coincide as they take on college credit. This charter school, has undergone many positive changes over the last semester, and will continue to do so in the years to come. Extra-curricular activities are being developed and implemented for the betterment of all stakeholders. Tempe students are eligible to run for Peer Leadership, where various activities, field trips, and fundraisers are their responsibility. Members learn to appreciate the role of project management, as well as benefiting those less fortunate. A community relationship with various corporations and organizations is the main goal of the Tempe West administrator. Partnering with the Arizona Cardinals has begun; and many other ideas and connections are in the creation stage. Tempe realizes the significance of bringing in outside resources, assistance, and programs into the lives of its students. A work in progress for change and unique opportunities will continually be the goal of this site. Pinnacle – Tempe West holds education and all which encompass that, to the highest belief.
