KRISTINA TAYLOR

Name: Kristina Taylor
Age: 16
Home: Tucson
School: Pinnacle Virtual High School, August 2007
What was the course? I took all kinds of classes with Pinnacle, math, English, Science, but the first one was sports marketing.
What did you think of the course? I loved it. It was all about the sports and entertainment world and how they get sponsorship. I was really fun. It’s something I’m thinking about for a career. I got to write a lot in the class and express my feelings. My strength is writing, and I loved how I got to write an essay each week about what I learned.
Why did you choose Pinnacle? I wanted to graduate early from high school and have the ability to work at my own pace and the school where I live would not afford me that opportunity. And my high school had too much drama for me, with all the girls just too much drama. I decided to take another path.
What did having a more flexible schedule allow you to do? The flexibility of Pinnacle allowed me to participate in modeling and acting, which requires a lot of travel and the ability to take acting classes and go on auditions. Pinnacle allowed me to continue this and earn my diploma. Because of my flexible schedule I was able to get the training to be able to compete in the Ms. Arizona Teen this summer. I also spent time with family and friends and worked on school at various times during the day while being able to do the things I really wanted to do.
What surprised you about taking an on-line course? I understood it and had all the material available to me and I did not have to listen to teachers repeat themselves over and over again. I was able to put my time to good use. The material was clear and concise. I also got a lot of help from the teachers. I would email the teacher with a question and they would get back to me in five or sooner. I used that a lot, just to make sure I was doing assignments right. The teachers were friendly, and that always helps.
What are your plans following graduation? I’m enrolled at Pima Community College, where I plan to attend two years then transfer to a university.
What do you hope to do for a profession? Work in the medical field as a registered nurse. I’ve always wanted to be in the medical field. I plan to volunteer at some hospitals and see if I like the field or not.
