Education: BS (double major) in Geology/Stronomy from Smith College; MS in Planetary Geology from ASU; working on PhD in S.T.E.M. curriculum design from U. of Cincinnati
Teaching since: 1998
Best part of teaching:
I ejoy helping students discover something about the world around them and themselves
Teaching style:
I'm a very hands-on type of teacher. I love to help students think through the problem (instead of just giving them the answer).
Favorite teaching moment:
I once had a student who had never passed a single science class before. He ended up wining first prize in a science fair – and running around the gym telling everyone he could find!
Why Pinnacle works:
It gives students flexibility with their outside life schedules, and also teaches them about being responsible, and setting a schedule to get a task done – something they will need to learn for the real world, no matter what field they go in to.
What would students be surprised to know about you?
That I was born in Ireland and have a strong afinity for Irish music and that I write for a comic book company.
Other interests:
Anything Sci-fi, drawing, writing, most kinds of music….
