Debra Wright
Courses taught: Junior/Senior English
Education: BA - Secondary Ed./English; AA - Fashion Illustration & Design; AAS - Criminal Justice
Teaching since: 1986
Best part of teaching:
When a student actually "gets-it". As well as, any interactions one-on-one with a student is fun.
Favorite subject to teach:
Geometry.
Teaching style:
Core knowledge, and I'm open to anything that gets the job done.
Favorite teaching moment:
When my students wrote 217 letters to the Manhattan Fire Department, in rememberance of 9/11. Engine 51 responded back with a nice letter, a picture and an open invitation to visit anytime. Each student also received an official badge from Engine 51. The kids never expected anyone to respond. Cool, huh?
Or there was the time when my students scored very high on AIMS, when administration thought it couldn't be done.
Why Pinnacle works:
The concept of allowing students to work at their own pace, in a more relaxed environment is what works.
What would students be surprised to know about you?
Students would be suprised at the many "hats" I've worn throughout my life and the many adventures that I have experienced. I guess they will just have to wait to read the book, to learn more.
Other interests:
I want to skydive before I die. In my lifetime I also hope to have my own book signing, spend many wonderful years with my daughter and her lovely family, teach "Journaling for Healing" to survivors of domestic violence, travel, meet interesting people and make others think! I work to change the world, one child at a time.
